History

Lightnin’ was founded in Atlanta in 1974 by Bill and JoAnne Lewis as a small truck rental company. We began to rent equipment to the motion picture industry in 1979. For more than 40 years, Lightnin has been a family owned and operated business with three different generations of the Lewis family. The business started with one truck after Bill Lewis retired from the U.S. Air Force. His fingerprints are still visible on the business with an attention to detail, flexibility, and the mindset to do “Whatever it Takes.” He’s since retired, but his son Gary, Gary’s wife Lori, and their sons Jason and Greg continue that legacy.

Starting from 1974

The Lewis Family founded Lightnin in Atlanta in 1974. Lightnin' began as a truck rental business.

Lightnin's First House in the First Location

We began renting to the motion picture industry in 1979. Lightnin first movie project was Little Darlings (1979).

In 1989, Lightnin first produced our first television commercial.

1990's

In 1995

In 1995, we moved to our current location located in Northeast Metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia.
